Hey, it's not been that long since my last post here.

Since Sept, I have learnt to make some cute creatures out of paper. (I need to be careful otherwise the house will be taken over by cicadas, butterflies, cranes and swans).

I'm sort of avoiding Aidy and Sarah's blog. They haven't seen Wellington in all its glory yet! Just wait until it's Christmas day and 28 degrees!!!

Well, that's it. Masterchef Australia is on soon.

Tsunami Hits Samoa

An 8.3 Earthquake hit Samoa this morning, followed by a tsunami. My mom called me about 8 times and finally I woke up enough to answer my phone. We weren't sure how bad this would be and if it would hit New Zealand. She wanted me with her at her work. (This is the first time we've been through any act of God - other than same Earthquakes).

I got ready as quickly as I could. And since I might have been stuck there for a while, I took my laptop and camera, and of course a coffee. I was absolutely soaked when I finally got there!!!

At about 11am my Mom's boss got a phone call. Gisbourne had been hit with a 40cm wave.... not that big. So Mommy let me come home. I'm still checking the news reports but it seems to have ended. My clothes are still drying as I got even more soaked on the way home.

We just got back from the grocery shop, and it just seems eerily quiet. I wanted to get this post up in case any family members happen upon this. We are all fine! (Sorry)

We left Guernsey for the last time.
The 25th was our leaving good-bye party, and on the 26th we flew away.... to Jersey for a few days.

We were packing up the last of the house to go into the container. Checked into a hotel and had a good bye party.

25th April 2009
Celebrated our first Anzac Day in NZ. And did some shopping - which seems to be normal for a Saturday.

A Journey to the Center of The Earth - In Review

Friday 10th April
We left Thorndon, Wellington at about 10am and drove up the middle of the country to Taupo, arriving at about 4pm.

Saturday 11th
We left Taupo to head up to Rotorua. On the way we stopped at this Hidden Valley Thermal Park. This was very cool to see. You could feel the heat coming from the water.
But sulphur smells! And it was a hot day! The mud pools were really amazing to see. Just lots of blob...blob...blob....

Tonight, for dinner I was given pine nuts in my pasta! Yuck! Nothing in the menu suggested pine nuts! So I took a dozen pills and got some soy milk and ginger beer when we got back to the hotel. In case you didn't know, I am allergic to nuts and seeds. My throat/tongue swells a little and my stomach starts trying to kill me!! I only had half my meal before I noticed the pine nut. So I wasn't that ill this time.

Sunday 12th
Happy Easter! I went outside for some fresh air while everyone was getting dressed and all these little kids and their parents were walking back to the hotel. Of course, it was an Easter Egg hunt. (I've never hunted for Easter Eggs). One of the hotel workers coming back with the little unfound eggs gave one to all the adults.

After breakfast we went to....

Heaven in a venti cup!

And walked back to the hotel via the Free Access Thermal Park. Lots of steam and a few mud pools.

We headed to the market near the lake, then back to the hotel for lunch.

Our hunt for the Buried Village begins! The Buried Village was buried after a Volcanic Eruption in 1886.

This is moms first real skating injury on me!
She fell in her skates and the wheels gashed my leg. It looks a lot worse than it is. But bled quite a lot.
It's pretty much been constant rain since so we haven't been able to get out.

Saturday we went to the Cuba Street Carnival. Took some photos but not looked through them yet.

Friday was Waitangi Day. So we went along the waterfront to Waitangi Park. There was a huge festival etc. Live music. Lots of people dressed up. (Men dressed up as pink fairies, convicts, pirates, elmo, smurfs, etc).

The colossal squid has caught the world's attention, and no wonder - since 1925, only two of nine adult specimens reported have been complete. Come face to face with Te Papa's amazing specimen: 4.2 metres long and weighing 495 kilograms - nearly half a tonne!

We finally got around to going to Te Papa to see this Colossal Squid.
(Not a squid or octapus - COLOSSAL SQUID).
The photo above is the very top of the Squid.

It wasn't as creepy as I thought it would be. And it didn't move!
It was quite busy there, but it is a pretty new exhibit.

His lovely legs!

A couple days later, we received some belated Christmas pressies from A&S.

Momma opened her birthday pressie last.

A little cutie, who can't decide if he's a boy or girl.

I will make sure that I get some great photos over the weekend.

Hopefully we'll be out skating!

Monday Words

LOOKIE! Momma is skating and not holding anything!

We both went out for a skating day on Saturday. But it was a little windy, so I had to try my skates to see if it was TOO windy. We didn't pick the best surface, it was all uneven with pieces of gravel all over the place. And of course, I fell down.

And these skates are practically impossible to fall in! I landed on my wrists and elbows. Only I didn't have my elbow pads on. So now I have a bruise on my forearm. And a few graizes on my hand.

But at least I have learnt the importance to elbow guards.

After dropping our skates home, we went out for a well deserved Starbucks. (Venti Iced Soy Vanilla Latte and a Tall Caramel Light Frappacino).

We walked along the front and decided to go see the Colossal Squid at Te Papa. Not as creepy as I thought it'd be. I did take a couple photographs.

Then onto OurSpace. An interactive type thing.

We went on The Deep Ride. You go down to the deep black sea depths to see Black Smoke and Volcanoes etc. Then we went on The High Ride.

The High Ride is amazing! You get taken a really fun journey. As motorbike racer, a bird, a netball ball, a maori warrier, etc.

Day Seven

Left the cold glacier weather behind and went on a coach to Greymouth.

Stopped at Franz Josef Village and Hokitika. At one of these places were deers, chickens and goats. And huge sandbeetles.

At Greymouth we got on the TranzAlpine train to Christchurch. With a stop at Arthers Pass. The train ride took about four hours.

Then we had a flight from Christchurch to Wellington.

Grabbed a shuttle and eventually got home.

I might come back and add some more photos.

Time to upload the videos from new years eve, so I will add those to the approriate blog post.

Day Six

Today we jumped on the coach from Queenstown through Wanaka (which is an actual place and is spelt correctly) to Makarora, Haast, Paringa to Fox Glacier.

I think this was taken at Lake Wanaka.

Beautiful sky.

At Fox Glacier we went up to see the glacier and walk on top of it at 5pm. The whole thing only took 30mins.

The helicopter flight wasn't any worse than a normal plane - noisier. It reminded me of Disney's Soarin'.

Taken through the window. Beautiful snow capped mountains.

The bottom parts of the glacier looked lovely. But you could definately see how much damage they could do if they just started to move (earthquake).

Had to make sure that I got this shot since it looks like we are going into the cliff.

We didn't.

We went over to the frosty icy snow.

We were told that it was only about 3degc colder up there - it might have been a bit colder than that.

Peter making a slushy snowball. It wasn't like normal snow but small bits of ice.

My socks and sneakers got soaked.

There was a mom and her two daughters that came with us. They were wearing jandels (flipflops). But we only stayed there for about five minutes before flying back down. When we got back we just sat in the sun to warm up a little bit.

At 9pm we went for a mini bush walk to try and see some glow worms. We walked through the track three times before it was dark enough to see them.

The glow worms are just little dots of glowing lights that get brighter then disappear.

They were lots of these little glow worm dots around. Once you find them, they are everywhere.

Earlier in the day. At Lake Wanaka - I think.

Day Five

We got to spend the whole day in Queensland.
It was raining quite a lot, so we went to find some coats, grabbed an okay coffee from Starbucks and went up the cable car gondala thing.

Up these steps, up a hill, then got our tickets and went up the cable car.

It was still raining and the cloud came down quickly covering the mountains so we only got a few shots.

Someone did the bungy jump.

The white things are the cable cars going up and down. If you wanted to walk down it would take about five hours.

Before dinner we went to the Minus 5 Ice Bar.

Putting on some thick warm hooded coats and gloves.

The tempurate when we went in was -7.5degc. The temperature alternates between -5 and -10.

All suited up and ready to go in.

Enjoying my IceBurg cocktail inside a glass made of ice. The drink was lovely and I did drink a bit of my glass.

There were a lot of ice sculptures around. Even a Christmas tree with tinsel.

I told mom to think drunk and this is what I get.

After the vodka. I wanted to get a shot of the menu so I could remember what the lovely drink I had was.

After leaving the ice bar we went for dinner.

Day Four

We stayed at the party until 12.30am. Got to bed at 1am and left Christchurch at 8am!

Day Three

We stayed in Bleheim this morning and went to see some Sperm Whales.

But we saw some dolphins aswell. They were really playful. Following the boat and jumping around.

That white "mist" is the whale coming up for air. He stayed up in the sun for a while. We saw this whale twice.

I thought I would be seasick on this adventure. I don't really like boats, but I wasn't sick!

Just as the sun was rising before we went to see the whales.

After a sort of lunch we got the coach to Christchurch. And after being sent the wrong way we found the catherdral.

Later that night we went back to the Catherdral square for a free New Years Party.

Not really sure what that big silver sculpture on the left is. A huge stage and large screen.

Sitting around from 9pm to 12midnight singing along with the bands and soaking up the atmosphere.

At midnight there were fireworks from the top of a lawyers building. I took a few videos with my new camera which I will put up on flickr.

Earlier in the day. Going back to the hotel for a rest and dinner before the free new years concert thing.

Day Two

Today we left Blenheim for Kaikoura.

At Kaikoura Rail Station.

We went on a tour of the place. This is at the look out point. We went to see some seals and there was only one there. Went to South Bay and a Lavender Farm.

It was about 27 deg c this day.

Momma was in heaven!

There was something interesting about this type of tree. The branches..... I'll let mom explain later.

Travelled from Wellington to Picton by the InterIslander. Then got the coach to Blenheim.

Had to queue for a while and leave our bags before getting on the boat. We went up to deck 10 before going down and trying to find some seats.

Very windy on the boat. It took about 4 hours to get across Cook's Strait!

When we arrived at Picton we jumped on the coach to Blenheim.

At Blenheim Rail Station. The coach was late arriving, so we walked the 10 minutes to the hotel. It was very hot this day!

In the city centre at Blenheim we saw this glittery Christmas tree.

And a paddle river boat. A nice little river and walk way went through the city.

We found this lovely little place for dinner.

I did notice a few people looking at me. And I think one person took a photo. At least I didn't fall over. Haven't fallen over in these yet.

Yesterday was Mojo's FIRST birthday!!!!

I still let all the liluns sleep in otherwise they'd all be complaining and tired.

Mojo got her two handmade cards in the morning.

Slipped on her little headband with the pink bow and had a wonderful day.

She does seem a little bigger.

When Grammie got home, Mojo had another pressie. A little pink box. But it's too small for her to fit in. I need to find something cute for her to keep inside.

Then today, it's my birthday. I'm old! :(

But then I just think that my brother's are even older! :)

My skates haven't arrived from America yet, but I have a bunch of cards. Two posted from UK, one posted from NZ.

On Saturday we decided to go to The Botanical Gardens for a picnic.
It was about 20 degrees and nice and sunny. With a warm breeze.

Me and mom are having skating lessons in a couple hours! This should be fun. I wonder if I should try and get mom to have a glass of wine first....

That would be even more fun! You know what Mom gets like when she's a had ONE glass of wine!

Still nothing heard back from Immi.

I picked up a few more Christmas Pressies yesterday - there are just so many bargains around and the stock changes every couple days.

There are lovingly wrapped in brown paper and ribbon sitting under a chipboard tree.

Next comes the birthdays! Mojo has her little surprise wrapped up and hidden. Hopefully I will get something from my Bros (hint) and my dad.

Then Christmas.

Then another birthday before Febuary even begins.

This will be our first Christmas (in the sun) without singing and dancing Homer!!!!

I picked up this skull mini album a few weeks ago. Finally got around to picking out some papers and starting this.

Yesterday we went down to the Waterfront at 7pm. Saw the waterskiers and racers.

The container yard is in the background. Lovely looking cloud.

This is an old boat that was built and came from Scotland that has stayed in Wellington Harbour. Normally this boat does nothing but last night they had the engines on and the steam hooting out.

Monday was a gorgeous holiday. It was about 18 degrees and wonderfully sunny.

After grabbing a morning coffee we went down to the Waterfront and walked all the way to Te Papa. At Te Papa there were some old firetrucks and new ones.

Below Frank Kitts park is this water sculpture. You can tell when it's summer - the water will be running.

On Saturday we went up on the train to Paraparaumu. Mom has a few courses to do there so we went to find the actual place she has to go to. It was extremely hot!

Yesterday was Labour Day so we all went for a walk along the waterfront to Te Papa and came home when the wind got cold.

Me and P are waiting for Immigration to extend our visitors visas. Then P can apply for a work permit under the partnership bit and get a job.

I finished the scrapbook pages up until Septmeber. But ran out of cardstock!!!!

My medical was booked for today but the nurse wrote down the wrong time so we rebooked it for Monday.

Our EOI was selected on Wednesday (only one of 700+). Now we have to wait for them to get back to us.

I had my blood test earlier, and I am still alive!

The person that took my blood reminded me of Girly S - in a good way.

Mom is at work again. She took some time off to make sure I actually went to the doctors place. My xray is normal. So far my medical is normal as well.

Need to get some more printer ink so I can start printing out the photos for scrapping next week.

Monday Evening

Today we picked up Mom's temporary work permit, then she went to work all day. I felt so proud of my little girl. Her first day at school. Ah.. work.

Tomorrow I can pick up my xray from Plunket House and then it's too the doctors see a nurse and get some blood stolen.

I dyed my hair on Sunday. And on Thursday both me and momma got our hair cut. My hair is such a pretty shade of red now - but needs washing to tame it a little.

I'm getting used to not reaching for a ciggie when I write in my journal at night. I got some lime and lemon cough sweets to ween me off of this habit.

It was about 16 degrees c today. But the wind is picking up a little. Which I believe means that Summer is coming along.

I ordered some more scrapping supplies last week. It should be here by Friday this week.

They're stealing my blood tomorrow!!!

On Thursday we moved into our new apartment just outside the City. Everything but Internet got connected on that day. We hoped that the Internet would be connected that day, but we still haven’t had anything from that company, so we have signed up with another one. But we still have to wait 3 -5 days for the wireless modem. Our local Starbucks is only 5 minutes away!!! (Can someone lend me $10.30??)

On Sunday morning (12:15am) we had our first fire alarm. Someone was playing with tennis balls in the hallway of our floor and hit the sprinklers, which set them off. I was just writing in my journal before going to sleep when a beeping started, then a voice saying to leave the building. (Which is cool). After a few seconds I realised it was a fire alarm, grabbed some clothes, shoes, bag, cigs, but forgot the camera! Water was flooding down the hallway – almost to our door. (Me and mom had just watched the end of Titanic on TV!) We found out where another set of stairs are – which is good. I remembered to grab the keys otherwise we wouldn’t be able to get back in. So we were standing outside the apartment building for 30 mins, before we could go back in.

The firemen showed up quickly and tried to get the water out of the hallway, (Did you know that you have to pay firemen to come out??) and currently there are carpet dryers out in the hallway. (Noisy!) Some of the water came into our apartment under the front door and some got into my bedroom. The carpet is still damp and some of the paint on the skirting board has bubbled up. At 1am we finally got back to bed, after a shot of P’s whisky.

Saturday was extremely hot – it was only 15 degrees Celsius but it felt bloody hot. I love how Kiwi Words are slipping into our vocabulary. (bloody, mate, eh, cool, yeees, yeeea, beeeed, bro and mom’s fave: get back here and clean the table – maybe you need to see the advert). I already know all the songs to my fave adverts.

Our new apartment is very lovely, even with the damp smell right now. The balcony is small and overlooks the Court of Appeal and we are near the Beehive (parliament building). I have to go outside for all my cigarettes. Which isn’t that bad since it is sheltered, and getting warmer at night time.

I have a nice big table to scrap in the open plan lounge, but I’m trying to keep everything tidy and contained to one area of the table. And I have my own bathroom!!!!

Today, (Monday) was quite busy. We went to Immigration to find out some stuff and have to go back tomorrow to ask a few more questions. We submitted the EOI last week (the first part of applying for Permanent Residency) so we should get picked out of the pool in the next couple weeks.

This time last year we were in Egypt. Maybe in Luxor, nearing the end of the cruise. And for those of you how have met the LilUns – it is Ogg’s first birthday on the 19th!!!!!! BTW he has five teeth, and my little Mojo has two.

I’m trying to think of Christmas presents for people. I think I have found the perfect things for brother D, brother A and girly S. (What else can I use??) (Brother A can also be called Bob). And I still need to make Christmas Cards for us to send out.

I think I’m running out of things to say. I hate having to wait for the Internet to get connected. C&W would connect you immediately! I checked our emails and I have a total of 40 messages in various accounts.

I may be getting my hair cut in the first time in about seven or eight years before dyeing it a nice shade of red.

Our wireless modem arrived this morning. We did have to call the call centre to configure it for Vista but we spoke to a nice american sounding woman. I had my chest xray this morning. I made sure to cleanse my lungs with lots of smoke before hand.

On Saturday we went to the Wellington Zoo via bus. I didn't take many photographs since the battery of my camera died.

I would be posting them but the uploader isn't working.

Yes, it worked! This is a very friendly Otter that would up to the enclosure and "speak" to you.

I think these were spider monkeys. They were about ten of these little cuties running around.

We got here last Thursday, and started sorting out everything straight away. I have left my CV with a few people, but haven't heard anything yet. Yesterday I filled in an application for Animates - a pet store (which had a gorgeous cat and four four pretty little fuzzy dogs - seperate of course).

I looked on the NZIS website and there have been some changes to the work permits, so hopefully that will work in our benefit.

And I will start selling some cards on etsy.com later today or tomorrow.

from Egypt. It was amazing to see all the temples and pyramids but it seemed unreal. Everything seemed to be in a haze.

We should have a reply from NZQA by the end of the month. So then we can send off our EOI.

We're probably not going to live in Wellington (if it really is windy) so either Bay of Plenty or Nelson. Bay of Plenty appeals to me more.

Janmommy's really into Astromony (sp?) and she's been looking through her books and they say that August is a good time to sell your house. Everything in my moms stars says that moving half way across the world is an excellent idea.

It's about five weeks till we go to Egypt! :D

I've been tiding today! If you know me this will come as a surprise. I cleaned up a small part of the lounge and the office. It does look like a lot of stuff has gone but its not really that much.

That sorted.com (?) site or KiwiSave Bank Account - where they give you money has some good games for kids there. I got 4,675 points.

My family have a thing about not wanting there photos put on the internet, so I had to promise to pixelize them.

Egyptian Dance

In eight weeks we are going to EGYPT! for our summer holiday this year. From Cairo to Luxor, cruising down the Nile to Aswan, then back to Luxor and Cairo. We've spent about three years trying to get to Egypt so we are definately going.

Janmommy got a reply from NZQA yesterday. They have the qualifications for assessment now we just wait. So hopefully we will be able to get our EOI off before our holiday. If there aren't any hold ups we should be living in NZ by March/April 08, which is my aim for date.

Still not sure which area of Wellington we should move too. Hutt Valley seems very crammed (?) and traffic heavy. So the Wellington City area or Kapiti Coast. I'm trying to find local website to get an idea of the area.

Tonight on ITV (I think) is "There's No Place Like Home?" and it's about New Zealand. Wife and husband moved over there 17 years ago and the wife wants to move back to the UK.

Personnally I never want to move back to the UK (once we're over there). Why would you?

I would clean out more of the office now but a lot of the stuff isn't mine.

NZQA should have Janmommy's application by now. In 10 days we should be able to send off our EOI. It seems a bit backwards but we need the points. And you have to send off your qualifications for assessment anyway, right?

I haven't hurt myself this week (yet). My foot is very colourful (blue, purple, red and yellow). Like a rainbow :)

We've been thinking about the more practical side of moving - (how to get all our stuff over there etc). I got rid of a sack of old clothes last week and I'm planning to get my room clean (and maybe the office) tidied and clean this week, considering I couldn't last week when I could even walk.

We should be able to send out EOI off next week.

Doomed, and Injured (Again)

I fell down the stairs last night and now my foot is swollen. In 2005 I did the same thing on the same foot but it wasnt so bad and on our holiday to Tunisa I got a bruise (the same size) but higher near my ankle from riding a horse. The foot things weren't changed and of course I wanted to gallop along the beach.

I got started to get rid of my cold from last week - tell me this will never happen in NZ!?
I told Janmommy that the stairwell in the new house needs to be encased in glass!

We got quite a lot done. Got our police check forms to fill in for later and found out about Janmommy and Peterlou's pensions.

My brother Adm sent us some pictures from his new camera. Not the best but he's still playing around with it (the camera, that is, not umm...). I promised myself that I would keep this blog clean.

Janmommy is sorting out some stuff at her desk right now. She has an email to reply to but is stalling. Why? It's about a job

We got some holiday brochures for NZ today just to look at the pictures - I wish we could get there now but we have a holiday in Egypt and two holidays in London this year. Then our holiday in NZ in January.

Hopefully we will be in NZ for good sometime early next year. September 08 at the latest.
